Become a Sporeling today!

Thu Aug 7, 2008, 3:17 PM
Hey, look! It's a brand new club for us to join! This one seems to be dedicated to the gaming genius, William Wright's new ultimate simulator game, Spore!
Well kiddies if that wasn't what first entered your mind when you stumbled upon or humble little society we've built here you'll be sadly mistaken. Like many of the gaming nerds and geeks prowling the 'net I am utterly psyched about the new game Spore! You may or may not have heard of this up and coming star, if not please do a favor to all of us and treat yourself to a heaping helping of evolutionary creativity, a.k.a. Spore. [link] . (If you don't want any possible spoilers skip down to the bottom of the journal).
For those of you who are too lazy to simply click a hyperlink, but not lazy enough to stop reading this journal I'll give you a little cap of this thing. As I said before, Spore is the brain child of Will Wright, creator of those infamous "Sim's" franchise. Spore however goes above and beyond anything gaming company, Maxis has ever put out before. At the beginning of the game you start out as a single celled organism. Sounds simple, huh? Despite the cutsie environment, the "Cell-Stage" of Spore is a struggle to reproduce and survive all the while shaping your little character to look virtually anyway your heart desires. Once your creature evolves a pair of legs you hit the beach and begin what's called the "Creature-Stage". This part for me personally seems like it would the most entertaining part of the game. Not to say the rest is crap, but I prefer the primal state. Anyways, here you embark on an endless journey of sex. Sounds like fun eh, wink wink. You will need to take your little abomination across the globe in search of new parts so that you can evolve beyond your peers.
Now you enter the "Tribal-Stage" once your little guys learn how to use tools. Instead of controlling a single character like in the cell or creature stage you're thrown in charge of an entire tribe. At this point the game takes on a RTS (real time strategy) twist. Typically games only allow you to advance beyond your "enemies" through violence and destruction. Not Spore! Leave it to Maxis to come up with more creative and social alternatives. Instead of constantly feuding with rival tribes you have the option to unify and socialize with tribes of other creatures. I love how Maxis breaks the mold here.
Once your species realizes that it can communicate without grunting you enter the "Civilization-Stage". Here the game become more like SimCity ( a Maxis game). Something I found interesting about this stage is that you can actually decide what your buildings, vehicles, and aircraft look like. You build up each sky scraper from ground zero and make it look how ever you want. Again your monsters find themselves battling other civilized species and again you can choose a diplomatic or military approach to conquer the plant in which you inhabit.
You'd think this would be enough crammed into a single game but for Will Wright it was sill missing something... The final frontier. Thus Will went a step further and added the "Space-Stage"! Once you control an entire planet the only place left to go is up. In the space stage you gain control of a Star ship (which is also customizable). This star ship allows you to explore the cosmos and conquer other planets. As time goes on you get new toys for your flying saucer which can enable you to create or destroy. Some tools allow you to terra-form uninhabitable worlds to your liking. Other can allow you to basically become a death star and simply eradicate the planet of any organism that is unlucky enough to piss you off. In space there are endless star systems for you to explore and conquer. And once you've either destroyed or enslaved every planet in the galaxy I assume the game starts over and you can do the whole thing over.
I can't explain how much I anticipate this game. There is absolutely no other game like it and it is truly revolutionary. No other game allows you to have such freedom and creative outlet. Virtually EVERYTHING in the game is customizable. You create your own flora, fauna, buildings, vehicles and star ships. For creative nuts like myself this is the god of all games and I am more than stoped for its arrival of American soil on september 7th '08.
So much for a short summary, but hopefully now you can understand why I'm in love with Will Wright for making this game.

As for the information about the spore club. Anyone is able to join. Simply add Sporeling to your friends list to join. It is not required that you submit any art work, but it is appreciated. Pretty much anything spore related is accepted as long as it's not stolen or sexual (sorry guys you'll have to get your "sporn" elsewhere) also don't be an ass and bash other artists. That kind of stuff really pisses me off so don't do it. And please, if you see something you like here on Sporeling for the love of God post your comments and favs on the original artwork (unless It's one of my pieces). I'll be sure to give credit to the original artists so you'll know who to give kudos to.
If you want to submit artwork to be featured in the Sporeling gallery just send me a note with at least a link to the artwork you to submit. Anything is submit-able, fan art, realistic renditions of creatures, anything (unless it conflicts with what i said earlier) You can even download the Spore Creature Creator from spore.com [link] (you can also buy the full version for 10 dollars american) if you haven't already and make your own creatures and submit pictures of them. Sound cool? I hope so.
You're probably wondering about contests. All I have to say is that if we can get a substantial amount of contestants and prizes we'll have contests. I realize I probably won't get very many members since this is such a new club, heck more than half the page views are from me, haha. If you do discover the club I beg of you, get the word out about us! If you decide to become a member paste "I love :iconsporeling:", or "Fall in with the Wright crowd, become a ~Sporeling today" into your signature or journal or some place where people will see it. I dearly await your membership! Fall in with the Wright crowd, become a ~Sporeling today!
